CROWN ROYAL BLACK

Back in Black By Alee Morrison
The new Crown Royal jewel features a robust
Canadian whiskey devoted to full-bodied flavor.
Darker in color and deeper in body, Crown Royal has done it again, creating yet another top-notch whiskey to add to their portfolio.
With its smooth blend and rich flavor, Crown Royal BLACK will be an endearing choice of drink at this year’s Steeplechase. In April of 2010, Crown Royal released a new expression: Crown Royal BLACK, which takes the good notes and tastes from the original Crown Royal, making them more enhanced and distinct- some might say it is the older brother to the traditional Crown Royal whiskey. The BLACK edition’s added depth and color is matured to perfection in charred oak barrels, creating deeper bourbon notes and a lush texture.

What could be more enchanting than sipping whiskey made for royalty? Crown Royal Canadian Whiskey has brought to the public a blend that was made originally and specifically for King George VI and Queen Elizabeth during their first Royal Tour of Canada. To mark this stirring occasion in 1939, a quality whiskey was created and packaged in a crown shaped bottle, which was then clad in a rich, royal purple bag. This new premium spirit soon caught consumers’ attention and became available only in Canada until 1964 and was then announced to the United States as an elite whiskey whose name reflected its history as well as its undeniable quality.
This is the type of drink that you would imagine your grandfather sipping in his favorite chair after a long day at the office, as it is strong in flavor and blended at a higher proof than most whiskeys. Actually, most modern blends top out at 42%, this grandfather of all whiskeys, though, is more closely related to Rye Whiskeys since it is blended at 90 proof. Master Blender, Andrew MacKay, has hand-crafted a blend that notes a deeper oak background with sweet maple and caramel tones. At the finish, one will experience a lightly soothing vanilla flavor. Amongst the sweet tastes within the drink, dried fruit- mainly fig become evident. Although this is such a high proof, the velvet-like feeling that consumes the senses, along with a creamy profile becomes a pleasant surprise.

The Crown Royal distillery is located in Gimli, Canada—just off the shores of Lake Winnipeg. Because of this location, they are able to produce blended whiskey in the most ideal climate, which supports the distillation process significantly. They strive to do their part in protecting our environment and providing consumers with the most natural ingredients by utilizing local grains as well as
pure water from local sources. Crown Royal is a brand of Diageo, the world's largest producer of spirits and a major producer of beer and wine and is distributed in Columbus by Georgia Crown Distributing Co. svm
